PHOENIX SUNS

The Phoenix Suns are a National Basketball Association team based in Phoenix , Arizona . The Suns are one of seven teams in the Pacific Division of the Western ConferencePhoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association. The franchise plays in America West Arena in Phoenix , Arizona and wear jerseys of purple, white and orange. The Suns were established in 1968 by former Chicago Bulls assistant coach and Arizona sports magnate jerry Colangelo. With combining talents of such players as Dick Van Arsdale, his twin brother Tom Van Arsdale, Hall of Famer Connie Hawkins, Len Robinson, Alvan Adams, the Suns had a mild success in the 1970s. In 1976 they finished the season with 42 wins and 40 losses, they went on and surprised everyone in the baseball world by beating the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in the playoffs and went on to play the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. The Suns lost in Game six against the Celtics. Game 5 is considered by many to be the greatest game in NBA history, when the game went into a classic triple overtime. In four out of five years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Suns registered more than 50 victories. Led the team to a 41-41 regular season record in the 1983-84 season was guard Walter Davis and Forward Maurice Lucas.

However, the Suns lost in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference championship series. In 1992 the Suns obtained Charles BPhoenix Sunsarkley from the Philadelphia 76ers. Berkeley led the Suns to 62 regular-season wins and won the NBA's most valuable player award. In the 1993 NBA Finals, the Phoenix lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games. The Suns remained competitive and qualifying for the playoffs in 1994 and 1995. Notable players included Johnson and forwards Danny Manning, A. C. Green and Wesley Person. Berkeley was traded to the Houston Rockets, after the franchise finished 41-41 in the 1995-96 season. In April 2004, the Franchise was sold to an investment group headed by Robert Sarver for $401 Million. The Suns finished the 2004-05 season with the best record in the NBA at 62-20. The team was led by the MVP-caliber play Steve Nash together with Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion. Nash was voted the NBA MVP for the 2004-2005 season after the regular season ended. Phoenix was the first seed in the Western Conference with the NBA best record; it was guaranteed home court advantage throughout the playoffs. In the Western Conference Finals, the Suns played the San Antonio Spurs. The spurs ended the phoenix outstanding season by winning the series 4-1.
