The Los Angeles Lakers are a National Basketball Association team based in Los Angeles , California . The Lakers began in 1947 when Ben Berger and Morris Chalfen bought the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League, and relocated it to Minneapolis .

As of 2005-2006 season, Phil Jackson has returned as coach to the Lakers, now the fans has the reasons to be optimistic as the Lakers currently hold possession of the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
